Peavey Minx 110-stereo cable for effects? huh?!

Sign in to disble this ad
Bought a Peavey Minx 110 (the older model it looks like) for a great price off FeeBay. Was reading the manual and there's an extremely confusing paragraph. Can anyone explain this?

"A Stereo Out/In jack is provided for in line patching of effects devices for each of the two amplifiers. A shielded y cord with a 1/4" stereo phone plug branching into two 1/4" mono phone plugs is required for this connection. The tip routes to effects device input. The output is returned through the ring. The sleeve is ground. The first click of this stereo jack can be used as a preamp output without distrubing the signal flow."

What?! If you have a y cable, where do you plug the other leg? There's only one jack. I'm lost. I get the the "first click is preamp output" I think (don't push the cable all the way in if you use an extension cab), but I don't get the Y cable thing. Anyone?

They're talking about an "insert cable," which has a TRS stereo plug on one end and, and separate 1/4" TS plugs at the other. One TS plug carries the signal coming thru the tip of the TRS; the other sends back to the ring.

This cable allows you to use separate in/out jacks on the FX unit.

Here's an example.

The "first click" allows you to partially insert the TRS plug, then use the "tip" TS plug to feed an external power amp. (Not a cabinet.)

I can understand the use of them if there were two jacks on the amp, but there's only one! What do you plug the other end of the Y into?

The one jack on the amp, is two jacks. Just as one, stereo, headphone jack, feeds two speakers.

The one jack on the amp is both in, and out.

Ok, so the Y part of the cable is for the external effect. And by "external effect" they don't mean a pedal, they mean some sort of compressor or whatnot.......am I right now?

"for each of the two amplifiers" is partly throwing me off too.... what two amplifiers? it's one unit...... :

Thanks for the help guys

Yes; compressor, chorus... likely rack mount.

That bit makes no sense. I'm betting slopping copy and paste from a stereo device's manual.
