Peavey stack question...

Sign in to disble this ad
I just seen this ad. I'm not real familiar with Peavey. Does anyone have any input on this stack? This is what part of the ad reads:
"Its a 500 watt Peavey TMax head and a Peavey TVX 4x10 speaker cabinet. The head puts out 500 watts at 2 ohms and the cab handles 700 watts".
I'm not sure what the head would put out using this cabinet. I'll try to post a picture. Thanks.

I played through this exact combo about 1 month ago and to be honest, the sound blew me away! I am not a Peavey hater or lover, I get what they are. Sometimes they hit a home run and sometimes they make solid equipment that does not exactly nail the sound. IMO this combo NAILS the sound!!!!

The Peavey website has equipment manuals available in Pdf format. Both of those pieces of equipment are good quality.

T-Max power specs:

200 watts - 8 ohms
350 watts - 4 ohms
500 watts - 2 ohms

The cab will be either 8 or 4 ohms.

I'm using a GK MB210 right now along with the GK 210MBE extension cabinet. I don't plan on getting rid of it but this Peavey looks nice. The asking price is $475. I was hoping it would put out more than 200 watts with this particular cab though.

That is a great price for the head and cab (Heck that's a good price for the cab alone!) if the cab is a 4 ohm it will be a 350 watt rig and believe me that is loud!

I found this: Peavey TVX 410 EX 4X10 Bass Speaker Cabinet. This cabinet is 8 ohms but it also has an "EX" in the model number. I'll have to check into the ad a little more. If the stack is still available it's close enough that I can try it.

i think the "EX" implies that it can be used as an extension, and is 8 ohms. all the normal TVX410's i've seen were 4 ohms, mine included. 350 watts through that cab will be thunderous

I may be a little late on this one. I haven't heard anything yet from the sellers. May be all ready sold.
GOC...does yours' put out 200 watts?

mine's similar

the `Kilobass' version, search`peavey',click`support'when you see a page with various things to click on click on `manuals',it will show a page with current manuals or`search archived manuals' click on that

they changed the site a couple weeks ago, used to be you could use the search function`archived manuals' ,,now you have to figure the improved? site out(but`support'/manuals is the key)

my Kilo it shows at the bottom page what cabs are recomended(T-Max is a lower `price-point' version of the Kilo),and feel free to call em up!,i did,in fact the man i talked with was a tech before he moved to the phone thang,,

all i know is Peavey gear is like a gift when you're moving on up the food chain(so enjoy the ride)=i do,,the Kilo as well as the T-Max have a tube pre-amp and,,there's some real good tone to be had, takes time,,i found if i turn the tube pre down i get more of what i was searching for

anyway!(hey i'm rambling!),,search em both out on the Peavey site=tmax and kilo and read the info, the only downside is you can do (to many/confusion things) like`bi-amp'`bridge' etc. if you've never done any of that, there's also whammy bar and grille(dot.com),,have fun

That is a great rig if the price is right. beware that 4 X 10 cabinet is heavy.

Am I the only one who thinks calling it a "stack" is a bit generous?

You make a good point there. I'm just use to combos so I called this a stack...lol.

Not trying to rain on your parade or anything, just it was not what I expected.

I suppose it would be rather a jump from combos.

I just call it a stack because the store catalogs refer to them as stacks. No problem.

This is the reply I got..."The head runs 500 watts at 2ohms, with the 4x10 cab I think its running at 300 watts, but it sounds like its running higher, I usually run the preamp around 6 and the main volume at 2 for gigs, then when the guitarist kicks it up I have plenty of headroom left to make him turn back down!!!!"
It is still available though. I'd like to hear the difference between this "stack" compared to the GK set-up I have. The only problem is the weight of the 4x10.

The amp head and cab is going for $375 now...I may have to bite the bullet.
I have an old Peavey Combo 300 that runs at 4 ohms, putting out around 210 watts. It seems to be louder than my GK MB210 combo which is 350 watts. I'm wondering how the 1/2 stack would compare to the GK...I do have the 210 MBE cab too which brings it to 500 watts(I think).
