Peavey Tour 450 - Rackmount Issues

Sign in to disble this ad
My Carvin RL1000 died a few weeks ago, so I needed to buy a new amp. I didnt want to spend a lot because I plan on having the Carvin serviced, so I bought the Peavey Tour 450 used at Guitar Center for $250.

To my surprise it is very nice! The sound is good and full, and through my sonic max, and bbe compressor, it is almost as good as the Carvin. It cut through the drums no problem at 4.5/10 volume.

Anyways... I have a Pearson Cases, four space rack case. And the Peavey has a silver bezel all around the head, and it sicks out a good 3/8th of an inch. So my front cover doesnt close properly, and I had to move the latch out so it can lock.

Is there any way to remove this bezel? I took off the metal cover of the head and couldnt see anywhere to detatch this part...

Any help, short of cutting the darn thing, would be great...

I had the 750 for a while and had the same problem with the molded plastic cover of the rack I was using at the time (SKB I think) with this head. Although I liked the head, this was very short sighted on Peavey's part. I took the head apart to clean it and remove the variac resistor, but can't remember if that was a faceplate that was removable.

FWIW, I switched to an Anvil type rack anyway and didn't have a problem with that configuration.

Hmm. On the rack case cover, the inside left side there is a thicker piece where the latch mounts. So I might be able to cut some wood/carpet from it... but... that's a last resort

Get a different case such as an SKB or Gater. You can pick them up used fairly cheaply.

The SKB molded case is the one I had trouble with (the thicker one...Xcase?) (see above).
