Peavey Tour 810 vs. Ampeg SVT810?

Anybody have any experience comparing these cabs? I REALLY like the ol' SVT810 tone, but I'm kind of curious how the lighter, more powerful (twice the RMS rating), ported Tour 810 stacks up against it.

For background, I play a Jazz bass (tuned CGCF) through a bunch of effects, into an Ashly preamp/Peavey IPR1600 poweramp and (currently) two Tech21 B410 cabs. I've been less and less happy with the B410s recently, because they don't seem to do a good job of filling out a room. I play in a heavy post-hardcore band.

I wasn't a huge fan of the Tour 810 when I demo'd it in the store, though I did plug the Tour 700 head into the 2X15 tour cab, and loved it... I almost bought it on the spot.

I don't know what it is with me, I just prefer 12s and 15s to 10s. Maybe trying out the 2X15 and the 8X10 in the same store (if possible) would be a good idea, that way you can kind of compare the two of them.

Was there anything in particular that you didn't like about the Tour 810? How does it compare to the Ampeg?

The Tour 810 is ported and the Ampeg is sealed.

The Tour 810 goes pretty low and responds like a large 410. A sealed 810 like the Ampeg is more about low midrange.

Peavey's sealed 810 is the VB810.

VB-810

It sounds like you'd be a bigger fan of the VB-810 cab. Less money than the import Ampeg and built in the USA.

Peavey Tour 8x10

For my endorsement Peavey gave me the Tour series 8x10 and the Tour 700 head when they came out. I love my new rig. I'm able to get a full range sound from crazy lows to sharp high.

They don't make the Tour 8x10 anymore but if you get a chance to buy one they are worth it for sure. It has an attenuated horn also for awesome versatility.

With all that said.....if I could I'd just go with a 4x10 and a 1x15 like I used to run before the endorsement. The 8x10 is pretty much for huge sound not your local bar (unless you want to shake the ladies around).

I say the Tour 810 is a good buy!
