| You won't hurt anything if you turn the amp up higher as long as you keep the DDT speaker protection on. If you are hearing a harsh clipping noise, try this stuff:
This may improve if you set the input selector to active even if you are using a passive bass. I play pretty hard, so I've been known to do that even when using a passive bass.
Your EQ settings can cause early clipping if you are boosting the lows a lot.
Try the compressor. Even if you don't like the sound of compression, just turning it on with a low setting will help and not be noticeable. The compressor will be especially useful if you like a heavy low end sound because it's before the EQ in the signal chain.
Turn the tweeter off on the back. Sometimes what you hear as clipping is actually a small amount of low frequency material that the tweeter is trying to reproduce.
