Peavey TOUR TNT 115

Hey,
I have just gotten my Peavey back from the repair shop (blew the circuit board due to a badly wired plug, have since invested in a circuit tester) and I'm curious as to how important the speaker protection switch is. I find that often times it will start clipping at a rather low volume and that's annoying to me. If I thought that it would be fine I'd like to crank it up just a little bit more.

Do you mean clipping you can hear, or are you seeing the protect light come on?

The light is coming on as well as hearing it...it has to be turned down quite low on both the gain and master in order to not be clipping out.

You won't hurt anything if you turn the amp up higher as long as you keep the DDT speaker protection on. If you are hearing a harsh clipping noise, try this stuff:

This may improve if you set the input selector to active even if you are using a passive bass. I play pretty hard, so I've been known to do that even when using a passive bass.

Your EQ settings can cause early clipping if you are boosting the lows a lot.

Try the compressor. Even if you don't like the sound of compression, just turning it on with a low setting will help and not be noticeable. The compressor will be especially useful if you like a heavy low end sound because it's before the EQ in the signal chain.

Turn the tweeter off on the back. Sometimes what you hear as clipping is actually a small amount of low frequency material that the tweeter is trying to reproduce.

Awesome, thanks for your help. Also, I see you work for Peavey. What is the name of your Product Development Manager? I had been communicating with him and cannot recall his name. PM if you will.
