Peavey Tour TNT vs. Carvin BX500

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey guys (first post!),
I'm in the market for a new bass amp (my Fender Bassman 100 just doesn't do it volume-wise). And money definitely is a slight issue. I am debating whether to buy the Peavey Tour TNT 115, or to go balls out and buy a full Carvin BX500 rig.

I would much rather have the BX500 for that great Carvin tone, but buying that plus the speaker cabinet is a tad too pricey. The Peavey Tour TNT 115 looks nice, seems to have all the power I need (600 watts RMS) however I can't find any real review on the amp, and I don't know anything about the quality or the tone.

How does the Peavey sound in comparison to the Carvin?

I play in a relatively loud synth rock band, and I play an american Fender Jaguar bass (which with it's active pre-amp really puts out a ton of low-end, so I need the rig to be capable of handling this staggering amount of bass.) I am definitely looking for a beefy, mid heavy, (yet articulate) sound.

So basically, I want the Carvin, but will the Peavey do just as well?

Volume requires more speakers, moreso than just wattage. Consider that before jumping on a high powered single speaker combo.

Alright then. Maybe I'll save up for the Carvin head with a Carvin 4x10. Any other suggestions on a good rig somewhere around 500/600 watts?

As much as I love my Peavey TOUR TNT 115 it isn't 600 watts RMS, it's 600 Peak, which is quite a difference.

I can't tell you how it compares with the Carvin, but I have a Tour TNT and it's awesome.

It's very loud; I've never had to turn it above 3 1/2 or 4, and my band consists of a drummer, a singer and two extremely noisy guitarists.

So far as tone goes, it's pretty versatile. You can bypass the EQ and get a good sound just like that, or you can tweak your tone any which you wish with the 7-band EQ, plus the high and low knobs.

It's powerful but it's practical too - it isn't too hard to move around, and of course, it's built like a tank since it's a Peavey. I haven't had any problems with it, and if I had to go back in time and do it all over, I would buy this amp again.

I hope this helps, and if you have any specific questions about it, I can try to answer them.
