Peavey VB3 problem HELP

At high volumes my VB3 would make loud, popping and spluttering noises. Hitting the top of the amp would do the same thing.

Taking the back off the amp and with the good old chopstick technique, it seems that when I touch the front panel of the amp from the inside I get this awful spluttering sound.

My friend mentioned it sounded like a grounding issue but honestly I haven't a clue?

I don't suppose there's any Talkbass guys that could give me any advice of what to look for or what to do before I take it in somewhere?

In a tube amp the first thing I would check is the power tubes. Preamp tubes rarely go bad but are also worth checking.

Yes, anything outside checking the tubes and you'll need to take it to a pro. I'm definitely a DIY'er myself, but people can die if they don't know what their doing with tube amps...it's where I personally draw the line. I would recommend finding a good tech (ask guys on here in your area for one) and let the tech figure it out. You'll pay more, but save yourself in hassle and possible life shortening (or ending lol)

Possibly yes actually? I got the amp from my manager who owns a gear hire company so I don't know those kinds of details but can easily get the information. Just wondered if I could sort the issue at home before having to give it back to them to fix.
