Peavy 15 Black Widow and Ampeg SVT-15e cabinet

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello all. Although I have been a member of Talkbass for a while, here comes my first post. I am in search of a 15 to add to my 410 and found this posting on Craigslist:

http://austin.craigslist.org/msg/1934522223.html

I know I obviously need to go out and try it for myself but I wanted to get some initial impressions before I got in contact with the seller. Any one ever had any experiences with a black widow in an ampeg cabinet? Do you all think this is a good deal or something work getting?

OH, my rig consists of an Acoustic B600H and Acoustic B410.

Thanks,
Dave

I don't have experience with the BW in an Ampeg cab, but that is a good deal IMO.
I'd mainly like to add that if you're going for more volume, you'd have more success with adding another 410 or even a 210.

If it's possible, have the guy bring the cab to your place so you can try it out with your rig. Some ppl like adding a 15 to a 410. There are a lot of sound engineers that will tell you a hundred different reasons why you shouldn't, but your ears will tell you everything you need to know.

Keep in mind that 15s tend to add low mids, not lows. Odds are your 410 is stronger in the low end than most 15s, so if you are looking for more lows, try adding a 410, not a 210. You'll drive the hell out of a 210 while barely pushing the 410. You will be driving a single 15 much harder than the 410, but the BW can take it.

When it comes to musical gear, try before you buy.

good decision. that 15 could work fine with a black widow but it's not what it was designed for, so you never know if it will or not until you jam with it. plus the two 410 route is much louder and sounds just as big imho.
