Peavy 410tx?

Sign in to disble this ad
Figured it's time to upgrade from my 180 watt 12 inch combo, and get a half stack for the larger gigs I've started playing. Came accross a Peavy 410tx for $200 and wondering if anyone here had any experience with them?

very nice sounding cabs for the money. Heavy, though.

Hi! I had one of those some 10 or so years ago, and liked it. It's rather compact for a 410, heavy for todays standards, tonewise it's a little mid shy, but, as I remember, goes very deep. I used it with a Peavey T-max, and it was a nice rig. Like all the other Peavey stuff, it's also built to last, so it would be one of the things I'd dare to buy used.

You can get more mids by disengaging the crossover.

i have one and its amazing, the bass is incredible, built like a brick, could gig them for decades with no problems, everything is built well and fixed in, a 410 and 1x15 and you'll be set for years!

I literally have hundreds of gigs on my 410TX. Cannot be killed. I'd take cover under it in a tornado. It's a beast that doesn't like most trunks, but if you have a p/u or a van, you're good to go.

What everyone else has said. Regularly gigged one for close to 20 years, and the only reason I don't anymore is because of the weight - it's close to 100lbs - and I'm not getting any younger. Still use it as my practice cab every week, since I can leave it at our practice space. But yeah, it sounds great, and it will very likely outlast me.

If you buy it, invest in some heavy-duty steel casters.

I have one and like it. Alot. I use an Orange tb500 amp on it can take anything you throw at it. And despite the Pevey naysayers, it sounds great. I can't imagine any other cabinet being more "heavy duty". I could throw this thing off my roof and still go gig with it.

I also saw one of these used in my area for around $200. Aside from the weight, the other concern I have is whether my GK 1001-RB II head will be too much power for it. The 410TX is rated at 350W RMS and 700 "program." That, according to Peavey's website: http://peavey.com/assets/literature/...s/80301559.pdf

I haven't seen that term "program" used before, but I presume they mean peak.

Thoughts? Thanks, J

Just listen to the cabinet for signs of distress - farting, distortion and so on. The head can easily kill the cabinet, but if you pay careful attention to how you use it, you should be fine. Also, keep the bass knob at noon and do no boost it at all. Less low end you use through the head, the more power you have at your fingertips.

Peavey has always offered bang for the buck. I have one (410TVX) that has been collecting dust for almost 4 years. It sets in front of the living room window to prevent the dogs from shreading the drapes as they try to kill the mailman. Really.

A respectable cab. I would offer 150, and settle for 175. Shoot, I would probably let mine go for 125 if I didn't have to ship it. Heavy. I don't carry such stuff any more
