Has/does anyone use this setup, I am looking to get lighter but don't want a step in down power, or spend big $$$. Pros or cons and any other advice is appreciated, sorry if this has been posted before

i haven't used it with the peavey but i have used it with a power amp before. love the vt, big fan, sounds great but the knobs are kind of sensitive for on the fly changes. i've figured out how to work with it but it takes a while to get used to it.

it was only a crate power block, which does a whopping 150w. but yes, the vt will easily drive any power amp.

yep. VT's fine into a power amp. if you're going to play places that go FOH and might want a DI than you might want to look into shipping it to Mike at Putnam Guitars to put a DI on the VT or pick up a VT Deluxe.

also, with the Deluxe the finicky'ness of the knobs is not as big a deal, since you get two banks of three save spots.

Will work well. As stated above, the original doesn't have an XLR direct out, so you would need it modded, or get a separate passive DI box, or you could get the VT deluxe. The Sansamp Bass Driver is an excellent choice also, and does feature an XLR DI out. They too make a deluxe version that has three programmable preset locations.

Putnam Guitars will do a VT Bass rack converstion mated to a 250 or 500 watt poweramp for $729. Don't know what the IPR will cost or it's wattage, but it's something to consider. They do other mods, like XLR out, et al. Cheers!

The VT will drive pretty much any poweramp, I've used it on the 3 different ones I have and it has performed well with each. It has plenty of gain and a variety of different tones, like the guys say the knobs are very sensitive, so tiny increments can make a big difference

I'm looking at trying the VT as a preamp with a peavy IPR or (.7 sensitivity) Crown xsl drivecore (1.4 sensitivity) because they are the lightest. The crown is probably a better unit and cheaper, but has a higher sensitivity, the peavy is maybe a cheaper product quality and higher price, but the sensitivity fits way better from what I have read. Thoughts anyone?
