Pedal Pre + Powered Cab= Rig?
I tried a SEARCH, I did, but I'm failing w/ this one.
My basic question is: is it possible to plug an outboard pedal pre straight into a powered cab a la the GK MBE series and have a working rig?
Please forgive my ignorance on the matter- amps/cabs/speakers has always been my Achilles Heel.
It depends. You need to know what the output of the preamp pedal is, measured in Volts, vs. the input sensitivity of the powered cab.
I can't help you with specifics on the GK. I have done gigs with a sansamp set to line level straight into power amp, so it might work for you. Most pedals don't have line output. Realistically you're better off with a bass amp.
Ok, sounds like more hassle than it's worth in just 2 posts, lol. Thanks guys!
Oh, and I have a great amp, but I'm looking to try something new.
Yes it is possible , with any preamp of some sort.
I've been doin it for the last 20 years.
Now I use a VB99 but I've been using a TD100 DI before that.
Otherwise U just run around reinventing the wheel.
If that match isn't perfect it will "work" until you get to a gig and it just isn't loud enough or providing depth. Then U throw on a dedicated pre and BAM! full fidelity and more than enough volume and headroom.
Getting accurate specs can be difficult too.
So in the words of Obi Wan, "run Luke run!"
