Phil Jones Bass Buddy - Electronics Question

Sign in to disble this ad
Ok perhaps I'm and idiot, just wanted to get some opinions / schooling from you electronics wizards on this forum.

The external adapter on the bass buddy went bad. No LED on the external unit, just doesn't power up the Bass buddy any longer. The BASS BUDDY houses internal DC power option of twin 9V batteries, and works fine using battery power. (18 V of DC power.)

Upon investigaing the writing on the PJB external power supply, its mfg by Golden Profit Electronics Ltd and has an output rating of 18 V / 850mA. - 15.3VA

I purchased an 18v - 24V selectable power supply from Radio Shack, on the 18V selection, the unit buzzes like crazy. I will be returning this unit to RS.

I called PJB and Freda sent me an External PS that stated its MFG is by SUNNY Computer Technology co. ltd power supply with an output power rating of +15 volts / 2.0 Amps. When I plugged this in, nothing. PJB Bass buddy did not power on.

I understand that any PC power supply should work, and have tried one off my IBM laptop rated at 16.6 V output power. That does work. I'm just worried about using it because of the under voltage. Or is there an under voltage? I noticed on the original PJB external PS it's labled 18 V / 850mA. - 15.3VA.

Should I worry about ruining the PJB bass buddy using this IBM laptop PS? I asked PJB to send me another PS, but if this one will work just fine, I should just ask for a refund of my $ used to pay for their replacement ( non working ) PS.

Thanks for any advice you guys can offer. It's greatly appreciated. Take care- DM
