Hey guys. I am sure that this was covered in previous threads, but I'd like some fresh takes on this little rig.

I found a bass cub for sale here locally and was wondering what you guys think is a good price to pay for a used one. Its supposed to be in "like new" shape. The guy said he got it and after a few weeks decided that it was not loud enough for gigs. So he wants to sell it to fund a larger rig. I would like something nice, and small for my condo. So, basically is this a good practice amp, and if so what would you pay for a used one. Thanks

My BG800 was clipping at last Friday's gig, and I'm clueless what was causing it. We've played the venue before, but they just moved the stage to the center of the room. I made a few adjustments on the volume/master controls and corrected the situation, but with a passive bass and medium volume level I was surprised it happened. After all the outdoor gigs this summer with no problems, it doesn't seem a medium sized bar would cause a problem like this. Any thoughts on what I did wrong?

I would wonder about the quality of power the bar was supplying. I don't know a lot about electricity but have been told that you can run into strange things like this when the power supplied to an amp fluctuates.

By all reports the Cub is a good practice amp; not a performing amp. JangoBooks has them new for $499 so it has to be a C-note under that.

I have a Bass Buddy that is a very good practice amp. Headphones required.

I have a B-200 in my rack mainly as a backup. It will power my 8T flawlessly, but not without help in a 300+ venue.

If you're pushing a 4x5 cab or even a 8x5 neo cab, it should sound great, depending on your application.

Can you use the B-200 alone? Without any preamp? Do you know the price?

Yes, no preamplifier needed. Unless you count my bass preamplifier, but it rarely gets switched on. I believe Phil sells these in the four hundred dollar range.

Maybe it was a power situation. I just used it at a big outdoor gig, where it was cranked, and no clipping problems at all. Thanks Smgeitch, you probably hit the nail right on the head.

Would like to snag this one for myself, but I'm trying to tell myself I don't need it. Local briefcase for sale on CL.

Hey you all PJB owners! What do you think about the Bass Cub combo? I would specially want to know how hi-fi the sound is and does it have any "punch" or "oomph" being such a small unit. According to this review:
http://www.justmoody.com/music/equip...se-vs-bass-cub
the Cub is "warmer"-sounding than some other PJB stuff.

Would also love to know how the headphone sound is with this one.

I'm thinking of getting one as my home practice combo, would also probably use it for small acoustic gigs. From the specs it seems to be just what I'm looking for. Any info would be much appreciated!

I bought a Bass Cub about 2 months ago to use exclusively as my at home practice rig. My main rig (Puma 900/Thunderchid 115) now stays either at the recording studio or the practice space. I bought the Bass Cub with no intention of using it on a gig.

After about 2 months of owning it, I must say that I really like it. The sound is certainly different than my main rig which is wide, pure, punchy and hi-fi. The Bass Cub is tight, punchy, warm and round sounding. Initially, I did have to fiddle with the eq a bit to get it to my liking. With such a small box, obviously it doesn't sound as deep or big as a larger box, but I find it works great for my purposes and my 5 strings sound excellent through it.

I primarily use it with my iPad (thru the aux in feature on the combo) running iRealB or GarageBand and it sounds great. There is no noise, the aux in level control is awesome and the headphone out sounds great. I actually don't use it that often, but the headphone out is a bit surprising because it sounds much better than the headphone out on the other amps I own (GB ShuttleMax 9.2 and Puma 900) and there is very little noise coming through.

The built in tilt stand is nice and the padded carrying bag is actually really nice as well. I have started to bring the Bass Cub to my work studio on days when I know I will be staying a little later so I can get some playing in. And that has been a treat as well.

I recently took delivery on a pair of the new C4 cabinets, and guess what? They don't sound much different from my 6T/9B stack. However, they weigh only about 25 pounds apiece.

Nice! I've read some very positive comments about the compact-4 cabs. As an older TBer I'm thrilled with the lighter, high quality gear now available. Even my BG800 at 78 lbs. beats the 100+ cabs I used to lug around.

Thank you so much, exactly the kind of things I wanted to know!

I also have a TecAmp Puma (500 1u) and the only thing I dont't love about it is the sound of the headphone out. I'm thinking I could leave the Puma at our rehearsal space and use the Cub for practicing at home.

Thank you, it might be time to join the PJB club soon!
