Just got a Briefcase off of kijiji for an amazing price. I had been lusting after one ever since I tried it in a local store. My dad also got a suitcase combo earlier this year and I had been sneaking a few minutes of play on it every time I visited .

It's simply amazing and while I was expecting great sound and tonal range for my semi hollow, I was pleasantly surprised that it handles pedals like fuzz brilliantly.

Anyway, finally got one and I am not regretting it one bit!

I would love to snag a briefcase, but am somewhat worried as to how it would fare in a "rock band" rehearsal. I'm accustomed to 24 five inch PJB speakers at my back, so any real live 3 or 4 piece band setting reviews would be much appreciated!

First time poster on this thread...

I'm insanely interested in PJB. Since I saw the Breifcase I've wanted one. Then I saw the BG100 and BG300 and have had a slight gas for the BG100 as it seems like the perfect litte practice or acoustic jam amp. I'm an avid sailor and many of my boat friends play guitar - I've toted my Bergantino AE112 down to the boat many a times to play music with them.

I've had the AE112's for a couple of years now and drive them with an Eden Navigator / Peavey IPR1600 set up. It sounds great but GAS, well it happens. With that said my current rig is my favorite I have ever had. In town there is a pre loved PJB 9B available and I'm very curious about it. If it worked out that I liked the 9B it would be at the expense of one or both AE112's for space reasons first and financial a distant second.

Have any of you PJB dudes ever made a similar transition. The only thing really use my rig for these days is outdoor worship and the odd blues gig. I'd probably add a 6T later if it made sense.

Regarding the BG100 I'm going to buy one regardless, so I am really interested in talking gig rigs.

Thank you, I'd love to hear your comments.

Scott

I think most of the tone of PJB are in the speakers. If you drive this with some other amp please post results.

9B is a great cab. I have one. It's made to be driven with the M-500, I think. A 6-pack is ideal match for it. That's my rig.

I also have a Super Flight Case. Great amp, enough grunt to play small gigs. Wish it had a USB port for an ipod.

Just to recap, here are some awesome live rigs:

For smaller venues, the M-500 and 8B with Neo drivers gets the job done with headroom to spare...

If you need to go big, especially for large outdoor venues, the M-500 + 8T + 16B delivers....

And, if you are wanting to experiment, anyone want to guess what this combination sounded like?

Update from scowboy...

I have now purchased the above mentioned 9B and am eying a 6T. I also bought a BG100 which I've had my eye on for quite some time.

The BG100 - While I appreciate that it's a full on combo amp and I've got use for something that small, I plugged in a set of cans, my old faithfull Stingray 5H, and some computer audio via the 3.5mm AUX input to it last night. I have to tell you I've not had a headphone practice experience with that sort of sonic satisfaction maybe ever and tried in vain! The preamp in that combo is why it costs what it does...it's transparent! PJB also clearly put a headphone circuit in the BG100 with enough grunt for a bass instrument application. You truly get what you pay for.

The 9B - adjusting to the sound of it took a bit. However from the first downbeat in a live situation, I got it. Honestly I've really capitulated about selling my other cabs since the 9B came into the picture and even listed the 9B here on TB (no bump this morning for it though). I'd really like to sell my 12's so I can fund the 6T without any speculative maneuvers on my part, plus I'm really short on space... My sole question is can I plan on the 6T/9B being in the same SPL range as a typical 4x10?

Using the 9B a few times I really am starting to appreciate the EQ section on the PJB heads and pre's and would love to try one. So yea I've been bitten by the bug.

9B is going out on Christmas Eve with my Eden Navigator/IPR1600 rack. Looking forward to it, the room is larger than normal with no enclosure around the drums. I'd live to try the PJB P1 pre amp with my IPR or another amp.

So my final question out to the TB Phil Jones crew...

Assuming appropriate amplification. Does a 9B/6T setup have enough volume to do a controlled volume outdoor gig?

Would love some feedback. I'm finding the 9B on its own carries its weight ok with a band indoors having the drummer enclosed but still right next to me. Love the size of that box it's so easy to roll around!

Any insite from you experienced guys would be appreciated.

When I have used my 2x112 rig I've been asked to dial the volume down a bit so yes PA w bass as needed to offset or balance stage volume.

Not. Straight answer but a more detailed one.

Limited PA support. But I do not expect it.

I'm buying PA and other equipment for a medium sized venue. Stage is 16' x 16', dance floor is 35' wide x 45' deep x 12' ceilings. 300-400 capacity.

I'm debating wether to go with a conventional PA subwoofer like the Yorkville LS801P 1500 Watt Powered Subwoofer, or to buy a PJB bass amp and install it as the PA subwoofer.

I've used my PJB 6 pack with 9B in that hall and it seemed like plenty to push bass in that space. If I did this I'd probably install an M-500 head and two 9B speakers.

I'm a little bit concerned that Yorkville thinks I need 1500 watts, but the M-500 is only 700 watts. Driving two 9Bs, I think it will only output 600 watts.

Any opinions here about this?

Who is using a Phil head with another brand cab? I'm looking at the D600 and maybe running one with some Bag End's.

China. But under very controlled conditions. Phil makes good stuff over there.

I have been a self described ambassodor for Phil Jones Bass for over a year now. I purchased the M-500 head, 8T cab and 16T cab, sight unseen, sound unheard. I bought it based on reputation from feedback here on TalkBass and to Phil Jones himself, as well as one of his dealers, Gary Rosen of Guitar X.

This combination has been used EXTENSIVELY at least ten hours per week since I got it. It has not been punished, but it has been pushed. Tom Bowlus' review in Bass Gear Magazine, and private emails from Tom himself solidified what other PJB users had been telling me. TURN IT UP! The amp can take it, and even more.

It was time for a little maintenance, I like to take care of things that cost more than, say for instance, my personal vehicle. I contacted my dealer who referred me to the man himself. Phil Jones was in contact with me (on a holiday weekend no less) and personally handled the transaction for me. He also made it clear if there were any issues I had, he would take care of them, if I had any questions or inquiries about any of his product line he would be happy to take care of me. In short, he stands behind what he sells. Period.

In an age where customer service and product support are misnomers, the extraordinary response and communication are deeply appreciated.

I should mention that I am not a paid endorser nor have any other connection to Phil Jones Pure Sound other than my appreciation for his creations. I just believe that in a forum where negative things get a lot of attention, I feel we should celebrate a company that is doing it right!

I was already, but I am even more committed to being a Phil Jones player for life!

This set-up looks like some kind of sonic Darlik.
PJB - Probably the best looking cabs!

Nice.
