Phil Jones Briefcase Stand

Lookee Here.

I occasionally play gigs in a little local pub where they've got us shoehorned into a front corner. We're hemmed in on two sides by windows, one side by a pony wail which separates our space from the entrance stairs, and have just a barstool's worth of space between us and the bar. They like us to keep the volume down, as people are there for drinks, food and conversation more than to listen to us hacks. So, the PJB does a fine job except that the sound is trapped in this little box and I'm nearly standing on top of my amp.

Not an ideal situation; so I came up with the idea for a little folding tilt/stand for the Briefcase. It's built out of clear Douglas fir, all but the 1-5/8" closet pole was just leftovers I had lying around. Nice coat of black latex, a bit of hardware, and Voila:

Pretty wild. Do you still get any bass out of it?

That's nice! If you decide to build more of those, I might want one (or two).

Them's fightin' words.

But seriously. I didn't notice any decreased bass response, and really did feel that I could hear myself better up close, Sound in the house was good from what I'm told, not that that proves much. By my understanding, proximity to walls in back does have an effect; below about 1.5' or greater than 7' is recommended. I was backed up pretty tight to the window.

Regarding building these for hire: I'd thought of it, but the time I put into one would be hard to justify what I should charge. Of course, now that I've worked out the bugs.....
