Piccolo tuned bass - is it safe to play through guitar rigs?

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a bass tuned piccolo-ish (C F Bb Eb, one octave and a half step above the lowest four strings of a standard 5-string bass). Would it be safe to play this bass through a standard guitar stack? Or would I risk damaging the speakers due to more low end stemming from the bass pickups and onboard preamp?

Thanks in advance for any pointers!

Would avoid boosting the lows, but really, should be fine, the guitar amp won't pass any lows, especially if you have some drive on, so you are unlikely to upset speakers. Only thing is a really cheap nasty guitar head might be pushed quite hard by particularly bottomy stuff and give up the ghost. A good robust power supply will cope fine though.

That's actually a half step above the bottom 5 strings on a 7-string guitar, so it shouldn't be a problem, at all.

On a regular tuned bass, the E on the second fret of the D string is the same note as low open E string on a guitar.

A piccolo bass may be fine through a guitar amp, but many guitar amps are toned for guitar sound. You may like the sound better through PA, or good bass amp.

I'm not sure if the piccolo sound can be possible to play with guitar, especially with the bass. It is sure that if you have a good guitar bass effects and add-ons, then it would be good and try to sound like that one.

This is how it starts.
A picolo bass through a guitar amp.
The comes metal followed by drop tuning and the next thing you know your playing a low B with 1/2" thick strings
