Picked up a PF-500 & 210 cab :)

Bought it and zero time to play with it before rehearsal last night so was just fooling around with it on the fly. LOVE the sound. Very round, very big and has that Ampeg growl. Ultra-hi and ultra-lo boosts are awesome.

What are all the other PF-500 owners finding to be their favorite settings?

Only concern so far is my passive bass seems to peak a lot unless I go with the -15db...not sure why that would happen

Was worried the 210 wouldn't have enough low end but they guys I play with all commented on how the sound was much bigger and had way more bottom end than the BA-115 or the 600w Peavey Tour TNT at our rehearsal studio that I usually play through.

Gonna play with it today. Played the DiPinto last night...haven't tried the Thunderbird yet

Is the 210 also the Ampeg PF? I check out the PF heads yesterday and like them both.

I have the PF500 head - haven't been able to get the cab yet - Pending $$
Let the light peak....just don't let it STAY on. it will be ok if it spends some time lit.

I LOVE mine, and am doing two shows this weekend with it - one outside with PA support, one inside without. both will be with an avatar 4-10 neo.

Have done about 15 gigs so far with it - and no issues to speak of.

The XLR out on back can be hot for some sound boards - and you may need to use the PAD - thats why its there.

Enjoy man! More feedback please......

Jeff, it is the portaflex 210 cab. Its such a sharp looking stack I had to get it.

Frank, what settings are you running?

I just bought one last weekend. Amazing, and for $400!?! Such a rich sound. And volume. I'm putting it through 4/10 (Emenance Legends and an Emenance Sigma 18") at home (shake the house) or at rehearsal space a PV Tour 15 neo pared with 2/10 Deltas in Tour cab. (I like those oversized cabs) Even louder...or is it that the building doesn't shake? And I CAN easily bring it home after practice...fits in a briefcase.

Probably won't use the ultra switches. The high isn't necessary as it's bright as hell already (2 tweeters I use) and the low adds 2 db 40 hz but cuts 440hz (although for max volume one can use ultra low and boost 450 hz on the midrange control) Most of my tone controls are about 2pm, treble at noon. So far I'm liking the mids at 800hz, the 3rd position.

I'm using a VT bass box last with volume and drive at 9:30...not quiet! But just the compressor (a nice one) comes on, no input peaks. If I use the pad, the VT has to go to noon volume.

What IS odd, is sometimes it takes a few minutes for the sound to work, like something has to warm up inside. Is that normal?

These are so cheep I'm thinking of picking up the PF350 too. Both together are what Ampeg watts usually cost...back before the economic readjustment of 08' when people thought they had extra cash...

I picked up the PF500 a couple weeks ago and am very happy. At the moment it's only been at rehearsals paired with an Epi UL410. I'm still trying to find the perfect setting because the cab with this head is a little bottom heavy and somewhat hard to tame (using P bass).

As for settings?

Bass - 11 o'clock
Mids - 12 o'clock
Mid-tone - 3
Treble - 12 o'clock

Compressor - 9 o'clock
Gain - between 11 and 2 o'clock

If it's a hot bass, it will. But really, the best thing is to ignore the lights and use your ears to set the gain. And don't use the -15db unless it's an absolute emergency.
