Picking a second amp

Sign in to disble this ad
I am in need of a small amp and cabinet or combo to bring to school to play in the blues band class i am in there. I currently own an avatar 212 and Bill Fitzmaurice tallboy 115 with a peavey mark III or a Gallien krueger 800rb to power it. The problem with these two setups is they are way to big to store in the measly storage space allotted from the Instrumental ensemble class at school in the band room.

The band I will be playing in has four guitarists, a keyboardist, and a full drum kit. The guitarists play through small amps but because this is in a very small practice space which has concrete walls it doesn't take much to be very loud and cover up the bass. I currently have my avatar 212 and 800rb there and that is plenty loud to easily keep up with everyone and probably destroy them. I would also like to be able to use what i buy as a small practice rig for other bands and i generally play blues or rock (classic and modern)

The largest cabinet i will be able to store at school is a 115 combo or head and cabinet and with this criteria i have selected a few used options locally.

These combo amps:

Trace Elliot Blx 80 for 225 OBO
Fender BXR 100 for 150 OBO
Fender BXR 200 for 225 OBO

or a cabinet/head option:
Locally i can get an acoustic 115 for 150 and buy an Gallien Krueger MB 200 online for 200 instead of the above options.

Any ideas on which would suit my needs better? or which sound better?
Also my budget is under 400 preferably 350.

thanks

for that $$ I'd get the GK combo - they seem like such a bang for the buck. order it from MF w/ the deals they are having now - plus they have a great return policy if you hate it. You have a GK already - the sound should be somewhere in the ball park . . .
