Pignose B-100V Tube combo amp. 100watts

So apparently there is a hidden gem in the bass amp world. Maybe I am wrong, but from the seems of it there is. Ive been looking all over the web for months for a 100w tube amp, combo or stack. I havent found much of anything in my price range, especially new.

But today i hear about these Pignose tube amps, a company ive never heard of before. They even got sued for by Ampeg for sounding too much like a Ampegs? (or something along those lines).

Anyone ever have experience with this amp or company?

I seriously doubt that statement. I don't believe anyone can trademark a sound, I don't believe anyone can be sued for a sound, and I really don't believe a Pignose sounds like an Ampeg.

I play the standalone head version. And its true, they were issued a cease and desist by ampeg's lawyers because the circuitry was designed by an ex ampeg employee to mimic the b15. its an awesome little head. loudest thing in my band louder than a marshall full stack! I replaced the chinese tubes with JJs and it sounds as good as any ampeg, in my opinion.

I emailed Pignose asking questions about mine and included the serial number to try to figure out what year mine was. This was what I got:

Hi Maurice,

Thanks for your comments about the B-100V head.

Yes it was an amazing amp at a very reasonable price. It was designed by Dennis Kager who got his start designing amps in the 60's for Ampeg.

It was 100 watts RMS and the price was about $799.00.

This head was discontinued about 5 years ago because of the lack of interest.

Regards,

Howard @ Pignose

I had the 1x15 combo for a long time... Didn't really know what I had until I sold it. Pretty much been looking for one since. They are great little amps. Simple and easy to dial in

I have the head only version and I love it. It's very loud and comparable to an ampeg tone wise.

I also have the B100VH (head version). I've pulled the Chinese made 6L6s, and put back in just two GrooveTubes Russian 5881s, and rebiased, so I guess that I can only get 32 watts out now. It is amazing thru a large high-efficiency 1x12" bass cab I built, and way louder than any club will let me play. It has this extra dimension of 'fatness' that I have not got from SS amps.

Dennis Kager is the former ampeg fellow who designed the amp for Pignose.
