Pignose Replacement Batteries

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a Pignose Hog 30 combo that is in need of new batteries. The current ones don't hold a charge anymore. The Pignose website has the set of 2 - 6 volt lead-acid batteries for $50. I found like rated lead-acid batteries on other websites for as little as $16 for 2. At 1/3 the price, I'd like to get the better deal. I'm assuming that there won't be any incompatibility with the charging circuit, correct?

should work okay, are they the same batteries? I've bought cheap batteries before and found that they don't hold a charge as well. I suppose it would be worth the risk to save some $$

my 2 cents,
Todd

I had a Hog 30 once and ordered batteries directly from Pignose no problem but yes expensive. It really isn't something you want to skimp on though, especially if the "other brand" leaks or something, might ruin the amp. Not likely but a possibility.

As long as the specs for the batteries are the same or better they should work fine. What you need to be sure of is that the new batteries you buy are fresh. NOS here doesn't count.

Just curious - how long did the original batteries last on the Hog? I'm thinking about getting one.

I have had a Hog 30 for 9-10 years or so. I recall the original batteries failed in about 2 years. I replaced them with whatever "Batteries Plus" had in stock and they are still going strong 7-8 years later. I tend to use the amp maybe once or twice a month for low volume band rehearsals and camping trips and I try to remember to throw it on the charger every few months. It's been a good amp. Very handy to have. To me, it sounds much better when I run my Sans-amp bass driver in front of it. A friend of mine bought a Hog-30 about a year after I did and still runs the original batteries. He doesn't use his as much as I use mine though.

Not to sidetrack this thread, but I went in to G.C. today to buy a Hog 30. Because it wasn't in stock, I would have had to pay shipping on it.

Long story short, I walked out with a Roland Micro Cube instead. I only had a chance to mess with it for about 45 minutes, but so far, I'm fairly impressed with it. My problem today though is that I have ear infections from a nasty cold, and everything sounds muffled. So I won't really have a good appreciation for how this thing sounds until my hearing gets back to normal.

Early observations are that the drum machine options are pretty cool. The tuner sucks, but other than that it's a good practice amp. I'll keep it in my computer room for when I want to work on something on YouTube, etc. Also, so that when I travel I'll have something compact that can be plugged in or run off of batteries. Don't know how the battery life will be. I think it said 8-11 hours (6 AA's).
