Played a BIG show and I have some live Mic+DI questions (Aguilar content)

So I just played the ShowBox SODO on Sat. (if any of you are in the WA area, you will know the size). This was a huge show for me and it went far beyond my wildest expectations!!!

I use a Aguilar DB750 with a Ampeg 810E. And I always bring a EV RE20 to mic the rig. Something that this venue did though was mic the cab (with my mic, instead of their mic) and put a Radial DI between the my bass and my head.

So, I had nothing by complements on my bass tone that night and I would like to continue to recreate what was done there.

My first question is does anyone have any idea how they (or other venues) blend the DI and mic. Say 50/50 or do they usually favor one over the other.

The other question is can is just flip the DI on the Aguilar to before preamp and will it be the same as how the Radial was set up. Also, how is the DI on Aguilar? I have heard that they are very good (comparable to an Avalon U5) is this true? Or should I invest in something better?

They might use the di for lows and blend the mic in for the highs

1. That varies in every way, shape and form. There is a lot about DI/mic in the Live Sound forum on here so dig around there for a further explanation of how some do it.

2. That all depends on how the pre-EQ voicing of the Aggie head is set up. The Radials are very flat response DI's and I don't know what the native tone of the Aggie's DI is.

There is a plugin for the MiniDSP unit you could use to accomplish this easily. 2 in 4 out, mixer plugin.

Send the Di and the mic both into the minidsp, adjust the crossover to taste and blend the signals back together again. Save preset, save to minidsp, run out to board.

Ah, you're the bassist of Alabaster!
My drummer and guitarist went to watch you guys (we're from High Noon Horizon). They said it sounded great.

I remember your tone being very present and strong, never had a hard time hearing you before.
Unless you asked that soundguy, then you never will know his ratio.
And yeah, you can use the 'pre' setting on your head. But (if you use pedals) one reason I don't like doing that is my pedals are setup for going through the head, otherwise the O.D. sounds aweful, so 'post' is what I do. But you can easily play with that at your next soundcheck.

How it going! Amadon and Alabaster have been trying so hard to get us all nailed down for a cool Tacoma show (I know this is off topic).

Anyway, I was playing around at practice tonight and I do like the way the Aguilar DI (pre EQ) sounds mixed in a little with the mic'ed sound. I run the Aguilar with the gain at max and it is kind of woolie (but not as much as you would think considering). So the DI adds a little bite on the top and some extra low.
