Playing a Gallien Krueger head out of an Ampeg cab?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi people,

I’m planning on buying a Gallien Krueger Fusion 550 tube amp, yet I’m thinking about using a non-GK cab for a more original tone.

Any suggestions?
Maybe this small Ampeg cab:

I’d like to get a bass tone reminiscent to Duff McKagan’s (Velvet Revolver), but not fully. To start out, I'm playing a vintage 1969 Les Paul bass (short scale)...I want a cool tone that cuts trough.

Ever consider another make? I was looking for a cab to replace my oversized Ampeg 1540 and found a good deal on a Mesa-Boogie 4x10 cab. I use it with my GK 800-RB and it's just amazing. Great sound and very well-built.

I use an older Ampeg 4x10 and a newer Ampeg 2x10 with my GK 1001RB-II. Both sound great IMO.
