Thanks for the input and encouraging words everyone. I do believe my relationship with the forum will be a love/hate as well gecko. I've decided to take the SWR back and get the hartke. While I like the inboard effects and some of the tonal quality of the amp, I'm running whatever I get through a sans amp bass driver (so sorry I forgot to mention that) and I have a couple other effects as well, mxr fuzz, dod delay and a boss bass chorus, I will get all the options on effects I'll need from those and some added tone from the hartke. Plus, it's got more power. Now I have listened to everyone about power and I know a lot of it depends on the cabs I'm pushing with said amp but I still don't feel right using this SWR.

Thank you again to all for your encouragement and advice. I went back to the music store tonight and I plugged in the hartke to try it one more time and was struggling with a decision. I unplugged, turned around and I saw this little GK 1001RB. I figured, what the hey, I'll check it out. I probably played about 20 notes before I made my decision. I quickly ran out to my car, grabbed the SWR and exchanged it for the GK. This amp has both those other apms beat, hands down. For me anyway. I'm blown away at how efficient and just plain awesome this amp is. I've only been playing it for a total of an hour and I'm in love with this thing. I'm extremely happy. Extremely. This is a bass players amp and I can't remember why its fallen on my deaf ears in the past. I can't say anything bad about this amp. But, I've only owned it for about 2 and a half hours so well see.

That feeling of knowing in the first few notes is how my last three basses came home with me, so I know what you're talking about. Congratulations on finding something that you really enjoy and that works with you!

Have fun, and come back to TB often!

I give gear about 10 seconds to impress me. If it doesn't, I'll never buy it. If it does, I'll give it another 30 seconds to a minute. If I can't stop after that minute, then it's something I would buy if my wife would let me

Sounds about right. Only I don't have a wife to stop me.

So true. I know I probably wouldn't have made near the number of gear changes if it wasn't for tb. Some for the better. Some not so much.

GAS is a acronym for Gear Aquisition Syndrome. Basically the want and need to get more gear.

It's a LONG running joke around Talkbass, like from the beginning of time. lol (maybe other places? but have only seen it here)

G.A.S. = Gear Acquisition Syndrome.

See something cool , gotta have it , get it , wallet hates you. lol

Where it becomes bad is when you sell to buy something new. Just to turn around and sell it to buy back what you sold in the first place.

Well, I've never done the second, but I'm in the middle of the first. lol

It's very similar to what I've heard about various 12-step programs. Denial, acceptance, decision, act, etc.

I played one note on my fretless through an Eden WT-400 driving an Eden D210XLT, and heard the sound I'd been hearing in my head for 20 years. I played with the amp for another five minutes, but I'd made my decision with that first note.

Congratulations on finding the first piece of your puzzle!! And thanks for taking your introduction to TB so well too!

As for GAS- there's a specific formula that explains it completely- the proper number of basses, amps, cabinets, bicycles, and cameras is T= N+1, where "T" is the total number required, and "N" is number currently owned.
