Please Help With Ohms...

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey. So I have a 1966 Blackfaced 50 Watt Fender Bassman. I'm almost positive it's a 4 ohm amp. I know that you're generally supposed to match the impedence of your amp and cabinet but does that mean I should only be looking for a 4 ohm cab to run it through?

Can someone explain to me what my options are as if I were a fourth grader because this ohm mumbo jumbo has always been way too confusing for me... I just want the full potential for this badass vintage bass amp, feel me?

Yes - do read the stickie(s) and use the search function as well. Being a newb, these types of things you may have not noticed yet, but lots of answers and explanations contained therein.

Short answer - don't use any cab or speaker combination that would result in less than 4 ohms total. Overly simplified - use 1 4-ohm cab or 2-8 ohm cabs or 4-16 ohm cabs with that head for a total 4-ohm load.

It will take anywhere between a 1 and 4 ohm load. 8 ohms isn't recommended.

So long as it's for the studio or guitar OK, live it's pretty anemic.

grrrrrrrr

it annoys me when people say the bassman isnt loud enough for live work. i have a 72 bassman 50 and half the time the soundman tells me to turn down.

plus incase there isnt enough volume then i just take the 2nd imput into the p.a
