please help TC Electronics BG500 or Ampeg Portaflex PF350

I need more power. I love my BR-100. I really like the high and low mid knobs to dial in tone. We play a neat blend of southern/motown /soul/rock with electric guitar, drums, bass and/or banjo/acoustic guitar/mandolin. The drummer can be heavy handed.

I've narrowed my search down to these two. If I've missed something else in this price range please speak up.

Thanks for the help

Why do you feel that way about TC Electronics Jimmy?

I've had good experiences with TC, although I haven't played that particular amp.

Experiences, like opinions, are like ***holes; everyone's got one, and everyone else's stinks more than yours.

I wonder what that says about me since I like to hear other people's opinions?

because a coupon for a free footswitch with purchase of a $1000 amp is not a suitable consolation prize for a contest imho.

You won a contest that did not specify the prize?

no, i lost a contest that specified the prize for the winners, and was given the coupon as a "consolation prize." but whatever...it's old news at this point.

I can recommend the TC BG500. It works and for me it has more options that suits my taste. I have and have had a lot of Ampeg gear also and although most of them worked well IMO they're hyped up and nowadays I think, just like cars, most of the components and stuff comes from the same place. Then of course you still have to live with the fact that a majority of bass players & musicians think an Ampeg is a lot cooler on stage, just like the fender bass. But aside from that, just thinking about the sound it produces and the features, the TC is up there among the SWR redhead and other muscular combos.
The Ampeg combos are more about buying what you're supposed to buy as a traditional bassplayer.
