please recommend raw 12" speakers for empty cab

Sign in to disble this ad
hey guys,

I am looking to load an empty 4x12... i'm thinking about the eminence deltas (12A-II) mostly because i'm happy with the performance of the 15" eminence betas i've been using for the last 10 yrs (the 12" betas are a little lightweight for me- small magnets and voice coil). The deltas handle 400w RMS each and have decent specs, although i'm a little worried about the xmax only being 2.7mm. I don't play slap so i'm not sure if it'll be a problem or not. I play a 5 string tuned to B, with a lot of emphasis on the low notes, with a very distorted mid and bass heavy tone. Can anyone recommend these speakers, or any others they like? The deltas are about $80/ea, i really don't want to pay any more than that per speaker.

Thanks,
Mike

Why not the Basslite S2012, twice the xmax, lighter, and same price.

You should be, that limits them to only 75 watts or so before farting out.

+1, assuming the cab specs will work with them.

So now you guys have me leaning toward the basslites... they have neo megnets, what's the deal with those? I see a speaker with a 4 oz magnet and i'm a little leery...

Why? Driver performance is determined by T/S specs. The weight of the magnet isn't one of them.

That little 4 oz neo magnet will be equivelant to a 40 oz ceramic magnet for strength.

Neo magnets have over 10 times the magnetic force of a conventional magnet but are maybe 20 times as expensive per pound? Anyways it works out that neo speakers are a bit more expensive than conventional ones but your back will thank you .

BTW you mentioned not wanting to go with Beta's because of the power rating and magnet size - in general speakers with smaller voice coils have better high end. That's why an Ampeg 8x10 can get away with no tweeter - it uses cheap arse speakers .
