Please tell me which amp to buy :D
Hi there, I just bought a Squier Jaguar Vintage Modified PJ active bass, and I need to use it in a practice room with a band.
I need an amp, and I'd like the cheapest and smallest amp possible that can hang on decently with the band. We mostly play rock/hard rock and the drummer uses a Roland electronic drum kit.
Thanks a lot!
If you use electronic drums there's really no answer to this question without knowing how loud you guys turn up. Do you have a PA for the singer and keyboards (if any)? if so, why not just go through that?
also what are your guitar players using for rigs? nice thing with e drums , they can be turned down
As the old adage goes:
Go try a bunch of stuff, and let your ears be the guide. But let your wallet have veto power.
We could all recommend our favorite amps to you, but in the end it doesn't matter. I like - no, LOVE - Gallien-Krueger amps. But it's entirely possible that you won't.
Just my .02! And good luck with your search - it's important that what YOU get is something YOU like that helps you get YOUR sound.
Being that you use electronic drums, everything in the room should have a volume knob on it. So, unless there is at least one douche in your band, you guys should be able to stay at pretty low volumes.
SVT with two 810's. ;) :bassist:
If you're gonna quote me , it's...
"Let your ears have the vote..your wallet gets the veto."
Thanks, dw..I take it as a compliment..LOL..
And yeah..You & I...We're right!
Hopefully you live somewhere where you can visit lots of stores and try lots of equip. Dwjazz54 is a G-K guy. I'm an Ampeg guy. Point is... Find the tone you like. Then try different sized combos to fit you budget. There are many small amps on the market right now.
Look at the wattage of your guitarist(s) and see how loud they play. Use a free db phone app. One rule of thumb (insert usual caveats) is that it usually take 3x wattage of bass amp compared to guitar. It takes a 100w bass amp to hang with a 30w guitar amp.
Others will chime in with good or better advice. Good luck! Have fun!
Check you local craigslist for an old Peavey 100+ watt 15" combo. Should let you hang until you get good enough to want to invest in gear.
<begin plug> Buy my used MESA Walkabout head (link in sig below). </end plug>
I'll ' see' your Double cab SVT...and 'raise' you one vintage Acoustic 320 with single cab 408 !
