Pls Help! Dating an old Ampeg Cab

Dear Mates,

A cab has crossed my virtual way and i have unfortunately no other additional information than this.

- some years old
- serial 167591

and this picture.( http://www.dropbox.com/u/4194859/Ampeg.jpg)
Will it be possible for someone to date this cab or probably comenear the region of period it was made?
It would be a great appreciated help.
Thank in advance

Mid to late 70's. Easiest way to tell for sure is to pull a speaker and look at the date code since you can't date cabs of that era by serial.

Or do i have to unscrew the speakers out of the cab?

Try this site- they seem to be big fans of Ampeg. I was looking for a name badge for my VT-212 cabinet and this site came up.

Actually that label does help place it squarely in the mid to late 70's despite not being able to date it by the serial. It was made in Elkhart, IN, and that was the Magnavox era which ended in 1980. For 6 years after, Ampegs were made in Japan.

Take her somewhere nice, try to make a good impression on her parents when you pick her up, no funny business, and offer to walk her home afterwards.

Sorry. As you were.

Thank you very much, especially JimmyM.
So i will unscrew the speakers when i find the right wrench for the screws and keep the thread after that updated.

Kind regards
