POLARIS AMPS / Northwest Paging Obscure and obtuse tube gurus

Sign in to disble this ad
Does anyone here have any experience or knowledge RE: Polaris amp. They were a Sunn Clone from I believe Washington St. in the late 60's, early 70's. Actually very good amps and I thought that their 2x 15 bass cab was as good or better than the (larger and heavier Sunn of the day), compact and powerful. \ In the late 60's and early 70's I owned and gigged a 100 watt Polaris head ( It may have been a Dynaco 100 Wt. kit ??) into a fat 2x15 JBL D140 cab that kicked. We were doing Tower, Cold Blood, EWF and a full range of kick ass R& B !!! and the aqmp was awesome till it went POP.

I have a head now I got off CL (120) that sports stacked knobs not like my vintage 72 Bass head that had three knobs and 2 inputs but looks exactly period correct. I Think its a guitar amp head but it looks just like my 100 watt bass head. the thing weighs at least 60t to 80 Lbs !!... the ... HEAD !!... heavy iron !!

anyone who has any history is requested to join in .

peace kirk
