Poll: If only can keep one cab - Mesa or GK

I have both a Mesa powerhouse 212 4 ohm and a GK neo 212 4ohm. I am thinking about selling one of them, but it is a tough choice. I'd like to hear some opinions with a poll.

Many on this board know the pros and cons of both of these good cabs.

I have been using both with a Stingray and a GK mb2 500

OK, I'll be the first to weigh in...

Given what I know about both models, and what I can infer by your choice of instrument, were I in your shoes I'd keep the GK and offload the Mesa. Why? There's simply more consistency of tone between GK amps and GK cabs than is the case between GK amps and Mesa cabs - generally speaking. And because a Stingray played through a GK rig is a known winner.

Also AFAIK, a class D micro head may not be the best choice to drive a Powerhouse 2x12 to its full potential - given the more robust Class A/B SS/hybrid heads and large tube heads those cabs seem to "prefer". Not to mention the slightly decreased efficiency of the Mesa Powerhouses, compared with the very efficient GK Neos.

But then surely you've already discovered these differences through your own playing, have you not?

Which one do you like better? Keep that one and sell the other. Done.

I'll say you end up with a 52% to 48% poll result.

It is a tough choice. Is that an older GK 212?

I do like the more snarly barky low-mid range of the Mesa 212 cab. But it is a deep cab making it a tougher carry. Also heavy for a Neo. But I do like the darker color grill better than the 90's GK shiney grill (not terribly important).

Given the GK head I'd say GK Neo stays. If you plan on an amp change...ala Walkabout or M6...I'd say Mesa stays.

You have them both, so A/B them and choose with your ears. This is not difficult at all.

I love the sound of my little GK backline 110 combo, and had been thinking about getting two Neo 112 cabinets to use with my GK 800rb head. This thread just helped me decide, if you are having trouble deciding which cabinet to keep, that says a lot for GK. I mean Mesa has a killer sound!!!

I think it depends what else you have for equipment and/or plan on getting.

The GK is lighter and more portable. Paired with that head, it can be your portable rig, if you have somethign HUGE for outdoor shows.

where as, if your "other rig" would be an older GTK MB150 fro jazz Trio or upright gigs, it might make more sense to keep the Mesa which can likely take mroe pounding, and offer a bit more absolute volume.

If it's really that hard to decide, sell whichever one gets you more back(mesa likely) or put em both up and sell whichever gets cash waved in your face first.
