Having some issues when I start turning the volume up on my GK 700. 2x12 Avatar Neo 4ohm
When I play a little hard on the low E or C in my case. I get a nice pop that sounds like thunder cracking when lightning strikes. No bueno

Settings: vol-12, cont & pres-flat, treb-9, highmid lowmid-2, bass-1, boost-2, tweeter-7
Once I turn the Woofer to far past 9 let the popping begin.Usually when I play a little harder (not string making contact with pickup).

I've used 1/4", Speakon, different instrument cables, efffects, no effects, 3 differnet basses.
Ground lift on and off. I've tried multiple eq settings. It seems like once I hit a certain volume (with multiple combos of vol/woofer settings) it happens. The clip light comes on every once in a while.

Cab or Amp problem? Any suggestions? Preferably the least expensive options first

I was thinking I might get the amp cleaned up by somebody. I'm not opposed to doing it myself, gotta learn how some time.
This is my first decent rig (non combo amp)

I suspect you're pushing the 2 12's a little too hard.

hmmm... I was slightly worried about that when I bought the cab. But its rated for 500 watts. The head puts out 480. I'll call up Bass Emporium and see if I can bring my head in and hook it up to a cab that can handle more.

That 500 watt rating is only the thermal rating of the coil before melting.

The mechanical limits of the speakers are probably less than half that wattage depending on how you EQ.

Sounds like you are jumping the coil gap, and slamming the backplate - not good. Take a good look at the outer edge of your speaker cones, hopefully you have not creased them yet.

By the way, IME, the GK 700RB is a very loud head for its power rating.

I didn't think that Faygo pop was available outside of the greater Detroit area.

I thought it was rms? Or is that the same thing. I guess I have some reading to do. I thought I had it figured out. I'll look at the cab right now.
I used to live in Ohio, plenty of Faygo out there

Now if you would have said "TowneClub" pop.. We'd be in business...

Damn I miss home. People in the Army give me **** for saying "pop" still... I refuse to change... Michigan all the way...

Sorry to highjack, I got all excited with the Faygo talk....

BTW, have you tried a different cabinet?

I need to find a cab that can handle more that I can try out. I wanted to upgrade anyways on the cab. Looks like I'll have to do it sooner than later. Might have to sell a few things. Good thing my band is slow going.
I couldnt turn this thing up if I wanted to anyway. All my guitarists have combo amps. And are either to cheap or refuse to upgrade.

I'm pretty certain it can be found in Ohio as well. Just don't spill your Faygo onto your 212...

Everywhere in Michigan, and I believe you can often find it in northern Ohio and Indiana.

You would be better off adding a second identical cabinet if the amp can handle the impedance drop.

"Faygo remembers....." Loved that commercial. However Vernor's Gingle Ale was my favorite when I lived in Detroit.
