Premier Guitar Magazine did a favorable review some months back, 2011 I believe, however after checking hard copy it was not the above posted amp.

Nice! It's quite small for a bass tube amp, pretty interesting. Hopefully they'll change the taps from 4/8/16 to 2/4/8 like Reeves did when they realized bass players don't need 16 ohm capability.

P.S. Yeah, not gonna go for the power cord "upgrade" despite the "HUGE" difference they make.

I like the small form factor very much, and probably more of a Fender tone than an Ampeg kind of tone, just going by the tube complement and control layout.

+1 for no chickenhead knobs.

Hmmm, didn't see that before. Well I've lost all respect now.

Low power, 16-ohm tap... I'm never impressed by bass amps made by companies that focus on guitar stuff and seem to just rework a guitar amp and call it their bass model. This might work for some people, but I can't see it doing all that well. Revise it to have about 300 watts and taps that make sense for commonly available bass cabinets (2/4/8 as has been posted above), and it might stand a chance.

Are the "soon to be released" cabs that it "pairs up perfectly with" going to be 16 ohm?

that power cord upgrde is the first thing that i noticed. so that kinda shoots their credibilty in the foot to me.
a 100 watt bass head for $1899? no thanks. i'll stick with my '68 dual showman that cost me less than 1/4 of the price when i want to use a 100 watter.

Yeah, the 16Ω tap does smack of someone who doesn't really know what's happening in the much hipper bass world.

What really gets me is his warranty.

Quote:
Warranty Information
Tubes are warranted for 30 days while components (transformers, capacitors etc.) are warranted for 1 year. While parts and componets are covered in this warranty labor is NOT and will be billed at an hourly rate. Port City Amps is NOT responsible for damage resulting from abuse, negligence or misuse of the amp. We handle all warranty work at the factory. Any modifications of the amp will void warranty. We require you register you amp with us and send in a copy of the bill of sale within 30 days of purchase to activate your warranty. (Warranty can be transferred by contacting Port City Amps.)
