What should a blown speaker sound like? When I add bass it rattles like a mofo. I can't tell whether sound is coming out....

1 of two things it either flaps like crushing an egg carton but really fast or it does nothing at all, no sound, depending on the voicecoils if they burnt up or not. best way to tell is to disconnect the speaker in question and check it with a multimeter to see what ohms its reading.

Take it to a good speaker tech. They can run tests, like take the individual speakers out of the cab and test them. If you blew one you should be able to get it re-coned for pretty cheap (like $60 to $80). It could be something in the cab is rattling.

I had a speaker I thought I blew but it turned out I was underpowering it. It sounded distorted and blown but it just wasn't moving enough.

Before I take it in, is there any possible way to tell whether or the not the speaker is blown?

rattling like a mofo when you add bass is a good indication of a blown speaker.

sorry dude.

GENTLY push with even pressure around the dustcap and feel for rubbing. if there's rubbing, it's blown. do this with all of them, too.

+1 to JimmyM. If it feels like sandpaper when you push on the cone, the voicecoil is cooked. Sometimes the voicecoil can even seperate..thats no good either. And dont drop speakers..that'll shift the magnet
