The "Possum" band ampless

Got a chance to see George Jones on Fri. night and was suprised to see a bare stage .Part of the concert experience has always been checking out the gear of the touring pro. The Jones Boys sounded great using FOH and also used ear monitors. Only thing out of place was the teleprompter "Possum" used for lyrics--he is 79 yrs old. Even had the band selling cds before the show. I guess travel light and travel quick.

One of my bands opened-up for Barbara Mandrell almost 20 years ago. Huge outside stage ...... no bass amp for me, not sure of our keyboard player and lead player .... but I was just going through the board.

What town did You go see Ole' Possum in? I am pretty certain it wasn't Atlanta, somewhere far south of the city as I see You're in Statesboro. At any rate I am sure it was a great show. I would've loved to have seen George before he's gone.

He was in Augusta and the wife somehow got front row/center tickets online Fri. a.m. It was a great show eventhough he had trouble keeping up at times--White Lightin, Race is on---and had to let the boys play a tune as he caught his breath. May be the last time to see this living legend on the road.

George is the MAN!! Teleprompters are almost becoming a standard part of stage gear now.Jagger was using them many years ago,Macca uses them also. Keep an eye out on performers you see on TV,when they show a shot from the back toward the crowd you'll see the prompter scrolling lyrics from a monitor box.Honestly I wish half the singers around here would do it.Too many singers have the stupid music stand on stage with all their lyrics.Everybody else learned their parts why can't they? My drummer always says "If you're reading, you ain't singing!"

Yeah we opened for Ty Herndon when he was going strong(several years ago). His bass player walks out with a pedal board and says "nice rig"..... 800rb/Hartke 4.5/115 stack. Wants to know if he can use it IF it's in the mix.

Once saw Waylon with hand written extra large print sheets laying on the stage. I've used them ever since. A great poor man's teleprompter! Some of the name acts we opened up for back in the 80s just used our Boogie rigs, which made it real simple for us. All the big pros have figured out what works best for them, and I'm sure George and The Possums are doing the same. Glad you got to enjoy George and his band while they're still performing.

I saw Waylon use a Teleprompter in the late 90's, it definitely lent irony to "Are you sure Hank done it this way?". Great show though.

I've seem some pics of Hank with the old tape the note to your guitar trick. Yes the times they are a changin'. Really enjoyed the show just wish I would have talked to the band. His lead player sat down beside us (and sold us cds) probably 30 min. before the show. I had no idea who he was. Just a nice hawker I told the wife. Boy was she laughing when they hit the stage!
