if i slave a power amp for one cab is 700Watts and the amp is bridged at 4ohms (matching ohms of cab) and is rated at 800-850.. is there a possibility of blowing the cab? I know that too much power can obviously blow the cab.. But is this enough to skate by or should I underpower it slightly if possible..
You can always turn down. Cab power ratings are sketchy, IMHO. I use my ears. If a clean signal sounds distorted, the speaker will likely soon be damaged. If you are using distortion/overdrive effects, test it clean and be sure there is no distortion AND zero volume boost—especially in the lows—from the effects.
Typically the rating of a cabinet is its thermal rating. that's the point where it starts to melt. A driver can usually use about half of its thermal power before running out of excursion. Any more than that just gets wasted as heat and the cab will get no louder.
