Power amp - has anyone done this?

Sign in to disble this ad
For some time I've been using two heads to drive two cabs because I like the headroom but now, if I'm successful on ebay, I'll be getting a Peavey CS800S power amp in London on Saturday and saving a lot of weight and space. I'll be driving this from my Sansamp DI pedal (maybe get an RBI later when funds allow) and I'm wondering which is the best way to drive both channels. I don't want to bridge as my cabs are unequal in impedance (8 and 4 ohms) and power ratings so I thought use the xlr output for A and the effected jack output for B. Or should I just use the xlr and then link over from the "A thru" to the B input. I'm guessing though that it won't make any difference - am I right? Also, it would be very convenient if I could phantom power the Sansamp via the xlr rather than the wall-wart I currently use - I know it's just +48Vdc applied through a couple of 6.81k ohm resistors to pins 2 and 3 and the ground on 1 but would this damage anything - any experience anyone? Glad of any advice - Thanks.

"..."A thru" to the B input. "

Yup, that's perfectly fine. I run my QSC RMX this way, because I find it easier than fiddling with the dip switches.

Does being moderately well know, as a roller derby ref, within a radius of about 120 miles from LA count? No? I didn't think so.
