power amp in and pres

Sign in to disble this ad
So Im trying to decide either to keep my SVT III and get a tone hammer and run it through the power amp in or to get a new head.

Now I dont have a preamp on hand but I did run my EBMM sting ray (3 band) through the power amp in and its not very loud. Will the Tone Hammer be louder than my sting ray? I mean if you plug into the head itself it seems at least twice as loud as you do when in through the power amp in.

Is this a good idea. Im looking for a clearer hi fi slap sound and the TH is cheaper than a Markbass LMIII or a TC RH450.

thanks

the poweramp in is designed to accept a line level signal amplifed by a preamp - not the one from your bass. I don't know about the tone hammer, although I'm sure others do (and you can google the specs and find out pretty darned fast). Eh, OK, I did the work - it can be used right into a poweramp.

If the 3 has an effects loop, you may also try plugging into the effects return. This also should run right to the poweramp section, although some are pre EQ loops, most are post.

TH has enough output to run a 1.5vrms power amp and change. So yes.

Used or new doesnt matter to me. I know of the BDDI and para driver.
Im also looking to rid my self of my 100lb 410 for a 210, 212 or 112, but cabs are very subjective as is everything else. Just looking for recommendations to try that can be bought for under 300 for a rack pre or pedal.

Here's my list of pedals:

-EBS micro bass II
-Aguilar TH
-FEA Labs growler + an EQ pedal
-DHA DI-EQ or VT2 bass
-John East STMP
-Pod X3 live
-Zoom B9.1u
-LR Baggs para acoustic venue DI
-BBE Acoustimax (eq points are not ideal though)
-Exar Ibex + an eq pedal

There are some more out there, but hope that helps. Most are in the 300 price range if you're willing to shop used.
