Question Power amp questions. Need help/suggestions.

Greetings. This is my first post.

I am about to acquire a peavey 4x10 cab 400watt handling. and a sansamp pre amp( the black and yellow floor unit). I was told i could use a power amp, but i dont seem to see any with in my price range. help?

Would an amp head be just as good?

I'm looking at the GK Backline 600 300watt.

You haven't said what your price range is. Also, what country are you in?

An amp head is a preamp and a power amp together in one box.

The sansamp is your preamp. You don't need a bass head, you just need a power amp. Shouldn't have a problem getting one used or possibly even new with $500. Bridge it into your bass cab. Look for anything that'll do between 600 and 1500 or so watts bridged and also says QSC or Crown on it. An old CS800 will work fine too.

The Sansamp will work as a pre, and can drive a power amp. However, there would be no problem if you plugged it into a head (another preamp). If you love your Sansamp tone, though, power amp is definitely the best option. Any extra preamp will mean extra coloration. You'll also probably be able to get a lot more wattage for the money that way.

You can pick up a used QSC RMX 850 or 1450 (my preference) for $200-225. Perfect for your needs. Just watch your local CL for the right deal. Lead sleds / boat anchors are just that and expensive as all get-out to ship so most sellers would prefer to deal locally. Use this to your bargaining advantage.
