Power Amp VS Bass Head

Sign in to disble this ad
My current setup is a
Aguilar Tone Hammer - Punch Factory - EB Volume Pedal...Backup setup is with a Sans Amp PBDI.

I am use to playing DI with no amp and like the tone I achieve with the Tone Hammer or PBDI. If I use an amp with either one of of my setups I cannot get a tone I like unless I skip the pre on the amp and go in the FX Loop return.

So would I be better off with a Power Amp into my speaker setup instead of a Bass Head (Eden 2X10 and a 15)

Things have changed and I no longer am able to go DI.

Power amp is definitely the way to go. Come up so cheap second hand. Could also gun for the fancy modern flat bass cabs with less colouration than trad ones.

IMO, if you're bypassing the preamp in your current amp and you like the way that it sounds, i think that you've answered your own question.

If those are 4 ohm cabs, a Peavey IPR 1600 would give you over 500W per cabinet at under $300 and seven pounds.

A bit more power than I want/need but the price is right.
Most of the time I only need my 2x10 cab.

Any other light power amps suggestions?
Any small form factor power amps?

Tempting.......johnk

For now I am using my crown xls 202. If I can unload some gear I may go after a SWR amplite.

Yes it is...Just a bit on the heavy side and looking for something a bit smaller.
