One of these days I'll go to work and chop them up. Make a bunch of 12 footers and a few shorty's for the back of the PA rack.

Hey, guys, sorry I haven't responded back yet. Had to run up to my other house (about an hour and twenty minutes one way) where there's no WIFI, and then hurry back and go play Saturday night. Just got in from that a few minutes ago.

Yes, I was concerned about the male end in the amp getting worn out or broken (the thread title is misleading---shoulda read "Power Recepticle Concern"). And yes, I thought about spraying it. Might just do that.

Thanks for all the replies. I guess it's not a big deal, but I just wanted to see if anyone else had concerns about their own equipment in this regard. I will say that none of my other equipment has ever failed due to the male end getting messed up, so I don't know what makes me worry about it now (not really worried, but just contemplative, I guess you could say).

Actually, though, on my Markbass 121H combo the back of the amp is so recessed I can leave a cord plugged in with no problem---and I usally do, not because I worry about it so much but rather that it's something less to do. But, I use that rig mainly for rehearsals.

Anyway, I'm glad and relieved to hear that most of you feel relaxed about it all. Thanks again for commenting.

+1 to trying a few other cords for better fit.

I have had the opposite problem with one of the IEC cables that was in my spares bag. This particular IEC cable was less meaty than normal, which became a problem when I grabbed it one day for the back of a Mesa Walkabout. (When the head's installed in the combo cab, all the connections point directly at the floor.) The power supply cable didn't fall all the way out, but it did vibrate out far enough to briefly interrupt power to the amp.

Once I realized what was happening, I just swapped in a standard-sized IEC cable and marked the offender with a strip of tape so that it might never again be caught walking out of a Walkabout.

Yeah, I'll try some other cords, too. I have them all over the place. Almost bought an 18 ft. one at Best Buy one day until I saw they wanted $30 for it. Sheez, that's high, I think.

cables2go has a nice selection of power cords. I splurged on a couple of 14 footers, so I could avoid using an extension cord in most situations.
