Power Cord Retainer For Amp?

Sign in to disble this ad
Just got an Ampeg B100R combo which has a power cord that doesn't detach from the amp. Has anyone installed a cord retainer with a loop that snaps in place to hold the cord on the shelf underneath the amp? I suppose I could buy some velcro cable ties, but I would like to fasten the cord to the shelf if possible.

I've got the same problem with the same amp! And I've been starting to think about attaching some very wide Velcro to that shelf to keep my power cord out of trouble when in transit.

Anyone have any other bright ideas?

You can drill a couple of small holes in the shelf and use tie wraps.

You could form the cord into a 12' coil, squeeze that into an oval shape and slip it right in the closest port. I've been stowing the power cables on both my B100R's this way so long they almost hop in there all by themselves
I coil mine so the plug points outward so it could never poke the speaker.

ps:
reach in and give both those cardboard port tubes a pull towards the amps back side every once in a while, they tend to rattle loose.

That might work for now. Actually, one of the cardboard tubes had come off and was just sitting in the cabinet. Had to remove the speaker to reattach it. Seems like this is another area that could be improved, maybe glue the cardboard to the plastic ports so they don't come off anymore?

I kind of like the velcro tie idea, my bandleader has some wide ones that we use for our PA speaker cables. Think they make these in diamond blue tolex?

velcro, screwed to the cabinet

I wish Ampeg had put a cord-bundler in the back of this amp. To solve the problem, I went to Lowe's and bought an extra-wide black velcro cable strap, and a wide washer with a small hole in the middle (called a "fender washer"). I put a screw through the washer, into the velcro, into the amp cabinet in back. It looks like it was put on at the factory, and holds the cord just fine.

The fender washer keeps the velcro from pulling off of the screw.

Sounds like a good idea, can you post a picture? Didn't realize that Lowes carried those type of velcro straps.

Here's a pic

This is just a blurry cellphone pic, but I think it shows what you want to see. By coincidence, I have the amp off the back of my B100R right now, so there's a clearer-than-usual view of my velcro gizmo.
