Power at speaker driver question

Sign in to disble this ad
Okay, my brain currently hurts, so help me guys.

I have a 4X10 cab that has 1000W handling at 8 ohms, each speaker has a 250W driver.

I have a 1X15 cab that is 300W at 8 ohms.

My amp is 350W at 8, 500 at 4.

So, if I hook the two cabs up in parallel, I'm at 4 ohms, and therefore at max my amp is putting out 500W.

In my head, which as I said my brain is currently fried, each cabinet when hooked up in parallel is only seeing 250W.

Therefore, if my 1X15 has a 300W driver rating, I'm still well below overdriving it.

Is my thinking and engineering calculation correct?

Numbers, yes.

Actually, no. Most speakers will crap out at about 1/2 their rated max.

Okay, so then at least my calculations are correct. Makes me happier.

It's moot, as what limits your cabs capacity is the driver displacement, not thermal power ratings.
