practice/small gig tube combo - opinions?

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm in the market for a 10 or 12 inch combo that will work for small gigs (record stores, small bars, coffee house, etc.) but has a small footprint. I've been looking at Line 6's Lowdown or a Fender Bassman TV. As you can see by those two completely different amps, I'm open to any suggestions. I don't want to spend close to a grand for a small amp though since I'm on a budget.

Like a 4th quarter Favre INT, mrpackerguy seals the deal with the Mesa suggestion.

But since it is clearly out of your price range, try one of the pretenders.

I haven't tried one yet, but a MB112 maybe?

I would love to throw down the bills for a mesa boogie combo. I'm basically looking for something I can take to my friend's place (he's a keys player) and *maybe* use with a drummer. That last part might be difficult with a low watt amp, but I just can't afford a rig atm. Anyone own a rumble? They're pretty cheap and I've only played them at GC. I couldn't really get a good feel for them since someone was blasting GnR right next to me.

The GK MB series combos seem to be well liked.

Once again, pertaining to the volume issue, and playing with a drummer, the wattage of the amp almost doesn't matter, compared to the speakers you'll use. A 1x anything will always choke when you need volume, no matter how many watts the amp has. If you want to stick with a combo amp, look minto something that has at least 2x12's, or a 1x15 that'll allow you to add an ext cab. That new GK 212 combo would be perfect.

Yep. I just bought the MB210. Seems fine for gigging medium to small shows.

seems like the MB210 wins it. Now I just need $600. I'm going to have to keep an eye out for a used one. I have a feeling that with their popularity and being kind of new that it might take awhile before they start popping up.
