In praise of the Crate BX25

I've had this particular amp for at least 10 years, bought new. I cut my teeth on an older one of these and a BX100 when I first started playing. Well I had only been using the BX25 for an electric drum amp for the past few months and before that it was collecting dust. The other day I plugged in bc my only cab right now is at the band practice house. HOLY COW!!! This thing actually sounds good! I use the shape contour to scoop the mids a bit but otherwise all of the tone knobs are at noon. And dang does it go deep for a 1x10! And loud! I realize you need 10x the watts for 2x the volume, and man is that ever the case. It definitely is half the volume of my usual rig, 300 watts. Anyone else surprised by the quality and tone of this little practice amp?

I gigged a BX200 2x15 rig in the 80's, but honestly, I can't say anything too good about Crate Bass tone. Good for the price, absolutely, but so long as you're happy, nothing else matters.
