I've been through a few pre's, BBE 383, BBE B-Max, RBI, Yamaha PB-1, none compare to the pre section of my ancient Mark IV. Is it a Peavey thing? I hate lugging it around, but it's still my preferred sound. It drives a PLX 1602 fantastically. With a pair of 3015 loaded TL-606's, collect names, kick a s s. What is sonically comparable? I'm sick of buying and selling perfectly good pre's.

I used an Alpha, and a Max before - both sounded great.

I use Crest CA series power amps (currently a CA9, but I've used a CA6 with much success, too). I've never had much luck with the lighter QSC power amps (PLX, etc.) for a bass rig, but YMMV. To my ears, they don't deliver in the low end. |

Im combining the Tech21 RBI & RPM as one into my poweramp, i parallel the signal & they are as one, gotta say i love it.No problems with sensitivity since the amp has a switch to go from 0.7v to 1.0v & finally 1.4v.
The preamps have a super hot signal together. They drive the amp into the red as easy as making pancakes & compliment each other in the process...what ones doesnt do the other does.No mid-shift on the RBI well the RPM has it.... no Presence on the RPM well the RBI has that feature.
The way JGR told me to hook it up is great.I can blend each signal as much as i want mix them together or have a dirty with a clean signal.Have both clean or even running a totally uneffected signal with a totally effected signal.
Sansamps are great.
Atomic.......

Try to Find Peavey TB Raxx. If you really like the MKIV I think you'll like the Raxx. Here at the house .I run mine into a SWR working pro 700 then in to a pair of old EV loaded home made 15inch bass cabs. really clean . |

I recently picked one up for $100, and I'll grab another if I see one anywhere near that price.
It's got some good clean sounds, but I bought it for tube crunch. I turn down the "low" EQ (passive tone stack) and crank up the pre gain a bit, and restore the low end with the "bottom" control in the "voicing" EQ (active). |
