Pre Gain?

Sign in to disble this ad
Okay, this is probably a newbie question, but whatever. I'm using a peavey TNT 115, from the early to mid 90's (as far as I know) And it has Pre gain, high/low knobs, a 7 band graphic eq, volume, bright and punch switches, and built in chorus. Recently, I've been turning the pre gain up to 10, with the volume at a low volume (1 in my basement, 2 or3 jamming with my friend) It gives me a really cool, natural sort of overdrive that's way better sounding than distortion from my Boss DS-1; very good for punk, and DFA 1979 stuff. No problems thus far, but I don't want to blow out my only "real" amp. So, I wanted to check with those of you more knowledgeable than I about amps to make sure this is safe. Thanks for all the help!

You are fine. It's just there to give you overdrive,as you have stated.

Yup, lots of us do that. No harm done, you're just overdriving its preamp.

Thanks a lot guys. I figured I was just being paranoid, but now I can be at rest and OD to my hearts content.
