preamp/power amp rig

Sign in to disble this ad
I am currently using a gk mb115 combo amp and typically play 80's hard rock/metal and am wanting to upgrade my rig to a preamp into a power amp mainly due to the light weight and having a component based system that I can add to etc as needs and $$ allows. I am looking at the following setup..

1)QSC GX3 power amp

2)Crown XLS1000 Drivecore power amp

3)Sansamp VT Bass Deluxe pedal

4)GK Neo 2x12 cab (600 watt @ 8ohms)

I would only be using this single cab and whichever power amp in bridged mono mode. I am wondering if the GK cab will stand up to the power provided by the Crown (700w bridged mono at 8ohms given its only rated at 600 watts) or if this will be an issue and/or if there is a way to adjust output power to not cause an issue with blowing speakers etc. I don't plan on pushing the heck out of the setup to get what I need. Has anyone tried this particular setup or have any useful ideas, feedback, etc??

Thanks

Virtually ANY amplifier is capable of blowing out ANY speakers. it's up to the user to listen to the cab, and dial back the low end and volume when the spkrs start straining. The fact that you want to use a 2x12 powered by a pretty powerful amplifier may be cause for problems, but if you can dutifully keep the eq and volume at or below the cab's ability, it should be fine. Btw, the 600 watt rating on the cab is the point the voice coils will melt, NOT how much actual power they'll handle. Typically, they'll take HALF their rated RMS power before farting and straining.

thanks for the info. Looks like this sort of setup needs at least two cabs or a fridge cab to function like its supposed to. I wont be touring any stadiums in the near future so may have to go back to plan B) gk mb fusion and gk neo 2x12 cab and call it a day.
