Primary Amp: Tube? Solid State? Or Hybrid?

Sign in to disble this ad
Many folks here, including me, have multiple amp types. This poll question is about your primary amp:

"if you had a showcase for the record deal of a lifetime, or for that dream gig, (whatever the case may be), what amp would you break out for that show?"

Basically, would you break out a tube, solid state, or hybrid amp? BTW, no gear humping. All set up for you.

I use an SVT-II and a 1001RB-II about equally although the GK gets equal action because it's at my rehearsal spot and the Ampeg is at home. I'd bring both but use the SVT-II first, I think. Either way, they'd top off my Genz 610 XB2.

The real kicker is what bass would I use? I have different basses set up for different playing styles and there's a bit of use overlap with most of them. That'd be the real choice, especially because I don't think there is any genre that I haven't, wouldn't, or don't play.

PS-I'm voting tube.

I generally use a Marshall DBS 7200 hybrid head, because it's a lot lighter and less insanely loud than my preferred tube head, a Sunn 300T.

If I am showcasing at a larger venue, I always use the 300T.

All tube for me. I'd have to break out my West Fillmore.

Right now, I'm really digging my Mesa M-pulse 600, so I voted accordingly - hybrid...

Tubes or hybrid. But I don't think I'd ever go full SS.

di with some type of solid state kickback reference monitor (if IEMs aren't appropriate).

I'm so over dorking with amps... leave it up to the sound guys to do their job.
