Problem with Acoustic B600H head

Sign in to disble this ad
So I found this forum through google, and thought this might be my best bet to fix my problem. The head is under warranty, however the problem will not be covered by warranty.

About 4 months ago, someone left paint thinner on top of my head, and it seeped inside. For the past 2 months it would turn on and work fine, and there would be an occasional spark or pop. (I'm in idiot for playing with it like that). So, with my background with PCB board and motherboards etc., I decided to open it up and see the damage after I saw a flame. The whole board was coated with 1/4" layer of paint thinner. I cleaned it all off with rubbing alcohol as best as I can. It still flares from the same spot.

The damaged board is the power supply board. I'm wondering if anyone knows where I can order this part. I've tried contacting Acoustic but I haven't heard back. Does anyone have any info where I could order parts for the head?

Thanks so much, and I understand that prolonging use under the conditions was very dangerous. I'm glad nothing bad happened.

Welcome to Talk Bass!

I recently needed to have an older Yamaha piece of gear repaired. I went to the Yamaha site, and looked for authorized repair shops in my area. That probably is your best option. Kudo's for trying to fix it yourself, I ALWAYS troubleshoot the basics, before spending stupid (or wasting) money. Good luck!

Thanks a lot! I'll check it out. Their website is pretty empty.

Since it's the power supply, do you think I could rig up my own power supply? A 600W PC power supply? 12V power is 12V power...

wow! I have little experience with electronics but lots with paint & thinners...you are very lucky that you didn't blow the amp and yourself up. fumes from thinners are at least twice as volatile as those from gasoline...since you're way past the worst of it, maybe at least get a can of electronic parts cleaner and hose it out. you can get it at most auto parts stores. thinners leave a residue like most oil based products and the cleaner MIGHT take some of it off. post this on the Acoustic Amp Club thread and your location. someone might know a shop to go to as Acoustic's website is kinda useless. also unofficialacousticcontrolcorpmessageboard....good luck!
