Problem with Ashdown Amp...maybe

Sign in to disble this ad
I have an older Ashdown ABM400H bass amp head. I don't really play it and am thinning the herd. So I took it to a store to have it consigned. The sales guy put the amp through it's paces to see if all the knobs and buttons worked. Everything worked fine except when he cranked the amp and slapped the bass and played for 30 seconds or so the amp would cut out.

What is weird is that if he unplugged the output and plugged back in the speaker cabinet the amp would then work fine.....until he cranked it again.

Another thing I notice is that if the subharmonizer is on the amp seems to act up more than if it is off. BTW, both fans kick on.

Is the amp going into thermal shutdown? Is this normal for Ashdowns?

Thanks!

problem with amp

I have a warwick prophet 5.2 that does the same thing, I think it has to do with how high you have the gain and the power section how high you have the gain, if i pluck the string too hard with the gain at a good level it will cut out, if i boost the bass past noon and play, it will cut out and if i use any sub it cuts out. I was told its quite easy to fix... and your amp probably needs fixin.
